Sick Momma = Pasta Fun!
This is what happens when Momma is sick. Sweet little Audrey takes over the house and plays in pasta. The pasta kept her busy for a good 10 minutes which meant more couch time for Momma- I'd say that's a well spent 99 cent package of pasta!

A Sweet Little Sunday
Sunday's have to be one of my favorite days: church, lunch, NAP, and then whatever the rest of the day holds - is up in the air.
Since we've been receiving Southern California type weather MiMa and Pops called and wondered if we'd want to have a picnic- so Mom packed her picnic basket and off we went to find the perfect picnic spot. We ventured out by the old Sabetha lake and found a great spot- a wobbly but efficient picnic table and a great spot for Audrey to run and play. We even found the oldest but best slide in northeast Kansas- it's where the true term slippery slide comes from!
Audrey got to throw at least a hundred rocks in the lake and her arm had another hundred in it but the adults had a hard time keeping up with her so we redirected her attention to food and "bips" (chips) -- a must-have picnic food.
On the way back into town we stopped to feed the ducks at Wenger's Pond. Old bread sure comes in handy and sure makes a toddler happy.
What a sweet little Sunday!

Let it Rain!
Sabetha got a much needed (and overdue) rain this morning! It was fun to hear the thunder and hear it just pour! A perfect morning for Chris to not have to get up and go to work ~ so we stayed inside in our pj's and ate warm monkey bread!
In a break between the hard rain, Audrey and I had to go retrieve the mail so I put her in her rain boots (that had never been exposed to the rain before) and we got the mail.
One of the first purchases we made after moving to Sabetha was a RAIN GAUGE- it's common talk around our little town "how much rain did you get?" you better be ready to answer and definitely not say "I don't know, we don't have a gauge"- we just might get kicked out of our town and told to go back to the city. So, here's a pic of our trusty gauge, he's always there when we need him and sometimes gets neglected by the lack of rain but today he's got 1.5 inches in him.
Thank you God for the beautiful rain you provided us! What a blessing.

Our Garden Girl
The 2008 K&C garden was a success! We planted tomatoes, squash and bell peppers ~ and we are still enjoying the fruits of our labor! It's pretty fun to make a meal with the "harvest" in the backyard - I almost feel like a pioneer woman! I have a LONG way to go, I know. But, it's the best I got!
Audrey is a big helper out in the garden, she picks tomotoes-- only the small green ones and she's good at bending the stakes holding up the tomatoes. Someday maybe our garden girl will actually be good at pulling weeds too!

Peaches, Peaches!
After tasting the most delicious peaches, I decided to buy a lug! So, today I began the freezing process. I got Audrey "busy" on the kitchen floor with markers, a giant pad and the Leona Lewis album on in the background for us to both jam to. After becoming a bored artist she wanted to come up and "help" me, she wasn't much help but she ate many, many handfuls of peaches. Marker on the floor, peaches everywhere, drips of stickiness all over but peaches in the freezer to eat all winter long will be worth the effort!
Vanilla icecream and peaches anyone?

Like Mother Like Daughter
Last night little Audrey had a taste of sweet corn on the COB! She knew right what to do and did it well! I'm known to sit down at the table and swiftly and very messily eat 6 ears- no problem at all! Audrey is well on her way to six ears just like her momma!
I'm proud of you Audrey- you do know what good food!
